Pagalu was the best hostel that my friend and I stayed at during our trip. Met many great people, the facility was extremely clean, bright and welcoming. The kitchen was equipped with great cookware, and lots of it. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfy (altho the bottom sheet didn't fit properly) If I ever end up in Puerto Viejo, Pagalu will be my hostel of choice. I highly recommend it :)

I stayed here in April and May of 2009 (two separate occasions) and I have nothing but GREAT things to say about it! Both private and shared rooms were clean and comfy. Hot showers were great, free internet, kitchen to cook your food. The help desk was super nice, especially after I lost my key to my locker and they didn't have a spare (I found it when I backtracked to a restaurant, luckily, but the help desk was totally ready to take apart my locker). It's off the main road but still really close, so you also have the advantage of getting a quiet night's sleep. I definitely recommend Pagalu!

Skip GoogleMaps. They send you to the wrong Puerto Viejo. Pagalu is in the Talamanca canton, 20 Kilometers south of Cahuita.
No question..the best hostel you are ever likely to find.
Great owners, amazingly clean. Ya gotta try it.
