Heavy rains that have pummelled Costa Rica in recent days today took out the bridge in Penshurt, shutting highway 36 and cutting off the South Caribbean coast from the rest of Costa Rica.

Hopefully a temporary crossing will be arranged as is usually done in order to provide another way to access the area. The rains have done a lot of damage in other places as well with the worst hit area around Turrialba. Route 32 through Braulio Carrillo is also closed until further notice.
