Drowning death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner highlights need to be water safe

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the Cosby Show tragically died by drowning on Sunday at Playa Grande. With 30 km of beaches on the South Caribbean to patrol the volunteer and community run lifeguards are not able to patrol all the beaches so resources are allocated where they are most needed. Unfortunately they were not there on Playa Grande when this incident occurred.
Warner and another man were apparently caught by a riptide. Onlookers attempted to rescue them but by the time they got them to shore Warner had no pulse and was unable to be resuscitated. The other man is in critical condition.
