A real diamond in the rough: Caribe Horse Riding Club

I have ridden horses my entire life and my ride with Vanessa down the Playa Negra into town (a year and half ago) remains one of the most memorable. I was instantly impressed with Vanessa's hard work in making her Caribe ranch a safe, responsible horseback riding facility. Unlike so many(in Latin America in particular,) her horses are extremely well cared for and well-trained, with excellent riding equipment. She spares no expense and so I had no qualms agreeing to a ride-- what a value! I was welcomed by her staff and her lovely children. It was just she and I for the ride and we had the luxury of an blissful gallop up the beach that I will never forget. We had some refreshing fruit in town before returning to the ranch as the sun began to set. Vanessa, I can see all the hard work you've put into this dream and I am very grateful for your service. It is a travelling horseperson's dream!

Riding Review

We rode with Vanessa for three days along the beaches and through the jungle. The ride was beautiful and exciting. We raced along the beaches, jumped a couple logs, and I swam my horse for a bright shining moment in the ocean. Walking, trotting or cantering though, the views were extraordinary. The horse I rode was capable and calm. As is the traveler's wont, I became quite attached to her. The saddle was so comfortable as compared to the western saddles I had unsuccessfully been trying to adapt to. The jungle comes right to the water and in many places, we saw no other evidence of humanity. The weather was perfect, as compared with the freezing North which I had forsaken to come to Costa Rica. We visited the Jaguar Rescue Center, which was fabulous, the Botanical Gardens, full of enormous iguanas, Maxi's wonderful local cuisine restaurant, Carol's French Restaurant, Mare Nostrum, Arricife Restaurant, and Banana Azul Restaurant.

All had great food and it was fabulous to eat outside, morning, noon and night. Vanessa was extremely considerate and diligent in her efforts to make us comfortable. She is a fountain of information about the area and the culture. The town is full of Europeans, surfers and hippies. If your heart goes to horses, you cannot do better than taking a vacation to ride along the Caribbean with Vanessa.

WONDERFUL TIME,HAD A GREAT TIME .THE OWNER LAST MINUTE TOOK US IN AND SHOWED US A GOOD TIME.MY WIFE LOVED RIDDING ON THE BEACHES,AND THROUGH THE JUNGLE.WE WOULD DO THIS AGAIN.CHECK OUT THE 3 OR 4 DAY TOURS BY HORSE.
