Panama Serial Killer Linked to Puerto Viejo Death
Posted by Editor | August 10, 2010 | Categories: Crime & Punishment | 8 Comments
Holbert been led off the plane in Panama after his extradition from NicaraguaA link has been made between an unsolved 2007 Puerto Viejo murder and the serial killer couple William “Big Bill” Holbert and Laura Michelle Reese.
Holbert and Reese, both American citizens, have been linked to two bodies found in Bocas del Toro, Panama of other expatriate residents of the Bocas del Toro area. Holbert has apparently also admitted to investigators that he killed 5 people. They were captured as they tried to enter Nicaragua from Costa Rica 2 weeks ago and extradited back to Panama.
Holbert and Reese were known to have lived in Puerto Viejo in the Punta Uva area before moving to Panama. They apparently ran a local bar with two other Americans, Alan and Stacie Duckworth, and told others that the four of them were going to start a business together in Panama. When the news came out of their connection with Holbert and Reese, it had some speculating that the Duckworths could also have been victims. However Don Winner, writing for Panama-Guide.com, managed to track them down and verify that although they did spend several months with Holbert and Reese they ended up going their separate ways.
But questions then began to be asked about the unsolved 2007 murder in Puerto Viejo. In a separate article Don Winner interviews the couple who owned the vacation home and rented it out through a local real estate agency. It turned out that the home had been leased for 3 months ”sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2007″ to a couple, “Big Bill and Michelle”, known aliases of Holbert and Reese. The renters ended up leaving after only 3 weeks of the 3 month rental.
The body was found when the owners returned in the fall of 2007 and discovered a new concrete patio had been installed that they knew nothing about. When they had workers tear it up, the body was discovered. The Costa Rican police still have been able to identify the victim in that case but at least it now appears the likely murderers have been caught.

By the looks of this photo, Big Bill may have spent too much time in the jungle! Really hope this resolves this mystery. The victim is still not identified? Como
When Bill & Michelle hung around the bsr in Punta Uva, they turned a lot of people off with Bill’s white supremacist talk and belligerence. But it seems they were able to put some charm on in Bocas. It would be interesting if they found the book Bill was working on. He let us read a rough draft of it. Mostly it was about a big, intimidating bald guy (Bill was shaved like a cue ball when we knew him) who charmed all the women, lol. Paradise in the PV and Bocas areas definitely has a seedy underbelly. Characters who are unable to return to their homeland are able to lurk in the shadows for quite awhile before being discovered. And I know all the arguments about this sort of thing happening everywhere, and it’s true. But in PV you tend to run smack into them and end up with a higher number of direct transactions with seedy characters.
Hey Hatch… PV is just living up to its reputation… Home of The Least wanted and The Most Wanted.
Funny thing… That picture of that guy could be any of a dozen around here.
Here’s some breaking info on the PV slab body found:

Stacie Duckworth is one smart, brave woman. Wherever you are Stacie: Good work!
But it is pretty strange that the Duckworths waited this long to turn over the documents and to let anyone know their suspicious. Hhmmm. Well, what would PV be without major drama and gossip. I still say someone should invest in a reality TV series. All they would need to do is keep the cameras rolling for a month…
Don Winner seems to be the only one investigating the Costa Rica case, it’s no surprise at all. I’ve been waiting 5 years to get justice on a piece of property in Puerto Viejo. The last hearing we had was about three years ago. The hearing was on the land itself, the judge from Limon showed up in a taxi with a campesino looking dude who pulled a typewriter out of the trunk of the car. We had to borrow a plastic table from the bar next door for the judge to sit on, and in the middle of the hearing, Gordo Malo, the now famous and murdered local assasin, showed up to intimidate my witnesses and the entire proceedings were halted. The result of that hearing, my opponent prevailed, lol! That’s the Costa Rican justice system.
My brother Jeff A Kline is the victim under the cement slab by all say and Don is right all the evidence. Our family found out this HORROR story last Wed. 18 August. Myself and sisters also the rest of family too. Brother-in-law,uncle,friend,father and little brother. Because of this sick piece of crap…I feel for the other families also and probly the families will find out later,,Thank you again what you do Don and putting the pieces together of this painful puzzle. Steve Nelson…R.I.P. Jeff
Now as of this Monday. A call from a offical in Costa Rica confirmed Jeff as possible HOLBERTS first victim. It has been very sorrowful for are family in this pass month and the months ahead of course. All the reporting and the info Don Winner investigated and physically searched and to put this horrible murder of Jeff to come forward and taking the proper paperwork to Costa Rica and get charges brought to that piece of crab and women. The waiting process again brings us to want it now. But time..time..like we waited to see if it was Jeff and then now knowing its Jeffrey. What is sad that there is no news coverage of this in the USA. There probably more media info in the area of this HORRIBLE crime. The fact AMERICANS killing AMERICANS for monies, propery, identy, and the most awful ending there lives. All these victims had a life and families. Do you know there lives? I don’t accept Jeffrey. But I have a good idea what they are going through in our time of sorrow. Just think..Will the VICTIMS be FORGOTTEN? Like I said the world has to know of this. If you ask someone”have you heard about the Panama serial killer? there answer will be “NO” I ask you if you could let the media know of this in your city or state. Let’s NOT forget the 6 Victims for I know I won’t. Thank you for your time to read this. AGAIN LETS US NOT FORGET..Steve/JEFF…….
